A dual-zone SIPs garden room built to exceptional standards
The Hickin family approached Heritage Garden Studios with a clear brief: to create a high-quality, fully insulated garden room that could be used flexibly throughout the year while enhancing their outdoor space.
Designed and built in Gainsborough, this bespoke twin garden room combines contemporary design, intelligent layout planning and the performance benefits of SIPs construction, resulting in a calm, practical space that connects naturally with the garden.
Rather than a single open-plan room, the layout was designed to create two distinct yet connected internal spaces. This twin-room configuration allows the building to adapt easily to changing needs, offering privacy and flexibility for work, hobbies or quiet retreat.
Measuring 8m x 4m, the garden room includes internal partitioning and a central washroom, all planned without compromising light or flow. Large aluminium bifold doors open the space to the garden, flooding both rooms with natural light and strengthening the indoor–outdoor connection.
Internally, plastered walls and ceilings, recessed LED downlights and premium LVT flooring give the space a clean, residential feel, allowing it to be furnished and used just like a room within the main home.
The garden room was constructed using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) to the walls, roof and floor, delivering excellent thermal efficiency, acoustic performance and long-term structural integrity. A galvanised ground screw foundation and EPDM rubber roof provide a durable, low-maintenance base suited to year-round use.
Externally, composite cladding and matching soffits were selected for their modern appearance and longevity, while integrated exterior lighting enhances both usability and visual appeal after dark.
This Gainsborough project demonstrates how thoughtful design, quality materials and expert craftsmanship can transform a garden room into a valuable extension of everyday living.
